Did you know that 15.2% of families with children at Bolton School earn less than the average national wage? This year (2006-07) £1.4 million will be available, allowing 269 pupils to receive assistance with their fees. The School is very confident that the bursary fund will grow again over the coming year and that by September 2007 there will be 300 bursary-assisted places available. This is enabling the School to pursue its aim of providing an education for all academically able children, irrespective of financial circumstances.
Due to the size of the fund, the bursary assessment criteria of families are much more favourable than many other independent schools. Parents that earn as much as £52,000 may be entitled to some bursary assistance; those that earn under £15,759 may receive free places.
Mrs Richards, Headmistress of the Senior Girls' School said: "families with bright children really should consider sending them to Bolton School. Bursary assistance makes it possible for children to enter the School from all backgrounds and this adds to the vibrancy of the School. Having taught at Bolton School and at Belvedere in Liverpool, I've seen how bursary assistance to study at a good school can really make a difference in someone’s life.”
The School’s bursary fund has recently been enhanced by large awards from several trusts, including the Leverhulme Trust and the Ogden Trust. HSBC has also recently announced bursaries in perpetuity for a Sixth Form girl and a Sixth Form boy.
Families can make appointments to visit the Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions on a normal working day by calling the Headmaster’s or the Headmistress’s Secretary on 01204 840201. Entrance Examinations for entry into Bolton School (in September 2007) will take place on Thursday 18 January 2007.
