Record Attendance at Open Morning

This year's Open Morning at Bolton School was a huge success.  Saturday 13 October 2007 saw hundreds of families and their children attend the annual event.  The whole campus was open and all the schools - the Nursery, the Infants' School (Beech House), the Boys’ Division Junior and Senior Schools, the Girls’ Division Junior and Senior Schools, as well as the two Sixth Forms – were extremely busy.

The morning offered a chance for enquirers to learn more about one of the north’s top independent schools.  The senior schools had a vast array of displays in their Great Halls and there were a number of addresses from Head Teachers and pupils, as well as promotional DVDs.  Representatives from the different Parents’ Associations were on hand to answer questions, as were Bolton School Old Boys and Old Girls.  All the classrooms were open and there was a wide variety of exhibits and demonstrations.  Guided tours were conducted by pupils.

Across the 32 acre campus a variety of sporting activities took place, including football, rugby, swimming, netball, badminton and lacrosse.  There was a kayaking demonstration in the School’s swimming pool and staff from Patterdale Hall (the School’s outdoor pursuits centre in the Lake District) were on hand with advice and demonstrations in the Sports Hall and gymnasiums.

Visitors were entertained by a whole range of activities, including short drama productions, abseiling, chamber choirs, Gandalf library searches, hands-on science experiments, creative writing classes and debates.

Catering staff were swept off their feet in the School’s Arts Centre, where light refreshments were served to parents and children as they enjoyed the non-stop music provided by the joint concert and jazz bands.

"This year felt like the busiest yet.  Usually, there are ebbs and flows in the number of visitors but today there has been a steady stream of people,” commented Mrs Gill Richards, Head of the Girls’ Division.
