Our Mission
Bolton School seeks to realise the potential of each pupil. We provide challenge, encourage initiative, promote teamwork and develop leadership capabilities. It is our aim that students leave the School as self-confident young people equipped with the knowledge, skills and attributes that will allow them to lead a happy and fulfilled life and to make a difference for good in the wider community.
We do this through offering:
- a rich and stimulating educational experience which encompasses academic, extra-curricular and social activities
- a supportive and industrious learning environment for pupils selected on academic potential, irrespective of means and background.
This is what Bolton School offers:
Academic Excellence
We offer a broad curriculum taught in small classes by a highly qualified and dedicated teaching and support staff. Our results at GCSE and A Level continue to place us amongst the top schools in the North of England. Outside the classroom, we hold an enviable reputation for sports, with pupil success at national and international level. Our aim is to encourage all students, whatever their level, to achieve their personal best.
A Friendly, Happy and Productive Working Environment
Bolton School is about much more than an education. Our strong pastoral care system develops leadership skills through the house system, the School Council and Monitorial Teams. This is a friendly, happy and caring environment in which both mutual support and individual achievement are encouraged. Pupils leave Bolton School as confident and articulate individuals, independent-spirited yet mindful of others, and equipped with the knowledge and dynamism to succeed in an ever-changing and competitive world.
An Incredible Array of Extra Curricular Activity
An incredibly diverse and strong extra curricular programme offers unique opportunities, challenges and fun. There are numerous club activities and many foreign and residential visits, including to our own outdoor pursuits centre, Patterdale Hall, in the Lake District.
Outstanding Facilities
Pupils make use of our outstanding facilities set in 32 acres of grounds. There is the opportunity for continuous learning as our campus incorporates a co-educational nursery and infant school, single sex junior boys' and junior girls' schools, as well as senior boys’ and senior girls’ schools that include Sixth Forms.
Diversity
Pupils come from diverse backgrounds and, currently, 286 pupils receive bursary-assisted places. Our secure coach service covers 22 routes meaning the School is accessible to a wide area.
Heritage and Modernity
The School combines 500 years of heritage with a modern infrastructure and outlook. A very active network of old boys and old girls spans the globe, allowing ex-pupils to maintain lifelong relationships with both the School and each other.
