In common with thousands of others, during the past few weeks I have been consumed by the thoughts of A-level results, and so it was with great relief that I learned I had achieved the 5 'A' grades needed to secure my place at Durham University to read English Literature from October.
In the summer holidays, I have had the time to reflect on my many and varied experiences at Bolton School, the latter part of which was enhanced by my appointment as School Captain. This was a personal privilege of which I hope I took full advantage and involved many aspects of school life including the leadership and support of forty-four School Monitors whose co-operation was greatly appreciated.
Other responsibilities included the roles of Chairman to the School Council and to the Charities Committee, which raised a record sum this year. These duties I feel aided my personal development, particularly when I look back on the formative early years which stimulated my enthusiasm for learning. My parents had recognised in the School ethos the ability to apply the highest of standards which would form the platform for my future education and employment.
Personal thanks are due to all the Staff and particularly my good friends in the School Kitchen!
