exquisite voices fill the night

Bolton School's annual Joint Choral Concert saw some exquisite renditions of Mozart's Coronation Mass, Handel's Zadok the Priest and Parry's I Was Glad.

The combined talents of the School's Joint Orchestra, the Senior Choir Girls’ Division, the Senior Choir Boys’ Division, the Bolton School Chamber Choir and the Bolton School Parents’ Choir joined four soloists; soprano Sarah Hayward, mezzo-soprano Anna Barry, tenor Alex Wall and baritone Alastair Livesey, for a wonderful evening of inspiring music.  Two of the soloist parts were taken by Sixth Form students, Sarah and Alastair - roles usually undertaken by professionals.

One of the highlights of the evening was Ben Smith's recital of the 1st movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto.  His virtuoso performance was nothing short of outstanding and he took several bows to a rapturous standing ovation.

Mr Alistair MacKenzie, Head of Music in the Girls’ Division was the conductor for the concert and he dedicated the Coronation Mass to Rebecca Logie who tragically lost her life in a coach crash in Ecuador.
