Girls' Division: An Increase In Percentage of A* And A Grades
In the Girls' Division, the percentage of passes at A* or A grade was 81%, up by 1% from last year; out of the 125 girls sitting GCSEs, 41% of papers were graded at A*. Eight girls achieved 10 straight A* grades and 56 girls (45% of the cohort) got all A* and A grades. 99.2% of passes were within the A*-C grade range.
Headmistress, Gill Richards, commented: "We are delighted with the results. As ever, the girls and staff have been rewarded for their hard work. These are an excellent set of results and there are some outstanding individual achievements. Eleven girls recorded top five marks in the country in 18 subjects and, of these, four were placed in the top 5 marks for English Literature, particularly impressive given that over 350,000 candidates nationally sit this exam. Eight girls recorded 10 straight A* grades.”
Individual subject areas in the Girls’ Division enjoyed some great success stories: in the sciences, 87% of grades in Biology, 83% of grades in Chemistry and 74% of grades in Physics were A* or As. 88% of English and 89% of English Literature grades were A*s or As. Grades in the languages were equally impressive: 100% of Greek grades, 93% of Spanish, 88% of Latin, 84% of French and 72% of German grades were all A* or As. 94% of all Music grades were A*s or As.
Boys' Division: Everyone Makes The Grade
It was smiles all round as all 141 boys passed six or more GCSEs at A*-C. A record number of GCSE entrants improved upon the grades of last year; no less than 50 of the students gained 9 A* or A grades and, remarkably, 30 of them achieved 10 A* or A. Candidates averaged 9.7 passes each at an overall pass rate (A*-C) of 98.2%, with an improved overall average of 66.5 points per candidate.
“Yet again, all who sat passed the 5 A*-C standard. It was a very large year group, so I am delighted with the overall performance. With the record 'A’ level results, it has proved to be a superb year all round” said the Headmaster, Mervyn Brooker.
There were many notable individual performances. Three boys scored top five marks in the country and three more boys all achieved the full set of 10 A*s.
It was a superb year for some subjects. All 23 candidates in Music gained A*. In Mathematics, 100 candidates were awarded A* or A. The School’s tradition in Modern Languages was maintained as 79% of entries in German were graded A* or A; in French, the figure was 68%.
