GCSE Results: School Celebrates

Boys' Division: 100% Pass Rate and 9 Pupils Get 10A* Grades

In the Boys' Division there were some outstanding results as students opened their GCSE envelopes this morning.  No less than 9 candidates achieved a full set of 10 A* and more than a third of the year group gained 9 A or A* grades.  Three boys - Alex Fisher, David Rossington and Peter Lucas – were placed in the top 5 marks in the country for English Literature as well as achieving 10A* grades.  Given that over 350,000 pupils sit English Literature this is an incredible achievement.  Josh Bleakley recorded 10A* grades whilst juggling playing table tennis for Lancashire.

Once again, every student reached the standard of at least 5 A*-C passes.  The overall pass rate was 96.8% with students averaging 9.5 passes each.

Headmaster Mr Mervyn Brooker said: “This was another large cohort, so I am delighted with the quality of results that so many boys achieved.  To see nine of them achieving 10 A* each is unprecedented and to have a further forty boys with 9A* or A is very pleasing.  Once again everyone has achieved at least 5 A*-C passes!”

Girls' Division: 41.7% of Grades Are A*s

The Girls' Division was elated at what Mrs Gill Richards, Headmistress, described as a "superb” set of results.  41.7% of the grades were A*s and 10 pupils achieved a full set of 10A* grades; 78.8% of the papers were graded at A* or A.  Almost two thirds of the year group got 9 A grades and 99.7% of papers were graded at A*-C.  All students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades.

Fifteen pupils recorded marks which placed them in the top 5 in the country.  Five of these girls achieved the top 5 marks in the country award in more than one subject.  In total, 24 top 5 marks were recorded.

Nicole Stansfield was placed in the top 5 marks in the country in no less than 4 subjects, including a full marks score in English Literature.  Jessica Smith received top 5 marks status in 3 subjects, dropping only 1 mark in her English Literature paper.  Sarah Ahmed recorded a top 5 mark in 3 subjects.  Lindsey Tate achieved top 5 marks status in 2 subjects, dropping only 1 mark in her Maths paper.  Imaan Gangi also received top 5 marks status in 2 subjects.

Mrs Richards was thrilled and commented: “We are delighted with this set of results.  Following on from the record breaking A level results of last week there is much to celebrate!”
