Best Ever Year For Boys
School records tumbled today as students at Bolton School Boys' Division opened their results envelopes. No less than 46 candidates achieved 3 grade As or better, and 81% of all entries were graded at A or B. This is the best set of results ever and breaks the previous record that was set ten years ago. 56.4% of all the boys' grades were As and 91.7% were A-C grades. The overall pass rate was 99.5%, with an average of 4.2 passes per candidate.
"The results are stunning. It has been a superb year group which has contributed much to the school and the wider community. They deserve these results which show what well rounded young men they are. I am delighted for them; they should be proud of what they have achieved” said Mervyn Brooker, Headmaster.
Most candidates can look forward to entering their first choice of university, many on very competitive courses. Results in the so-called “hard” and “unpopular” subjects were impressive: in Mathematics 94% of all entries achieved grades A or B; in the sciences the figures were Biology 89%, Chemistry 83%, Physics 72%. Of the 32 candidates sitting a modern foreign language, 78% gained grade A or B.
Five candidates were awarded grade As in 5 subjects: Richard Cooke, Owen Curwell-Parry, Paul Hutton, Chirag Mistry, Benjamin Waugh.
100% Pass Rate For Girls
Results at Bolton School’s Girls’ Division were equally impressive. 100% of students passed their exams. The majority will be going to their first choice university. Forty eight per cent of all examinations taken were graded A and 91.7% of grades were in the A-C range. All the medics and vets got their first choice of university and all the Oxbridge candidates, which represented 10% of the cohort, achieved their offers. 100% of students undertaking Further Mathematics achieved either A or B grades and girls also performed particularly well in the Science subjects with 82% achieving A or B grades in Biology, 71% in Chemistry and 88% in Physics.
Mrs Gill Richards, Headmistress commented: “I am delighted with the results. To achieve a 100% pass rate is something that both the girls and the School can take great pride in. The Staff and students have worked exceptionally hard and they deserve this success. I know these girls will go out into the world and make a real difference.”
