a flying start for your career

Bolton School's Boys' and Girls' Divisions were treated to a careers talk with a difference as a Royal Navy Search and Rescue helicopter from 771 Naval Air Squadron flew into the School.

Pupils that had expressed an interest in joining the Armed Forces were given a hands-on tour of the Sea King helicopter and a demonstration of winching by the crew.  There was then a lunchtime talk from Lt Martin McCardle, which focussed on what life is like in the Royal Navy.  Lt Rob O'Kane was also part of the crew and being, an Old Boy, he could vouch for this being a realistic career option!

Mr Richard Catterall, Head of Careers in the Boys’ Division, commented: "the physical presence of the helicopter and the Royal Navy crew really helps bring this career to life.  The visit is part of a rich and varied careers programme that pupils here benefit from.”
