a football extravaganza for the town

Twenty two teams from 12 local primary schools gathered at Bolton School to take part in a 5-a-side football competition - the Crusader Cup.

Teams competed for three cups: an A Team Competition, a B Team Competition and a Girls' Competition.  The afternoon was fun but competitive and there were some very close games.

The girls' final was a 0-0 draw between Brownlow Fold Primary School of Bolton and Lostock Primary School and the two teams decided to share the cup.

The B team final was shared by Brownlow Fold Primary and Devonshire Road Primary of Bolton.

The A team competition was won by St Philip’s Primary School of Atherton who overcame Clarendon Cottage of Eccles 1-0 in a very tight final.

The competition has been running for several years now and is refereed by the Sixth Form football teams.  It is organised by Bolton School’s soccer coach, Keith Branagan, who made 263 appearances as Bolton Wanderers’ goalkeeper in the 1990s.
