Over 200 pupils from twenty primary schools from across the region took part in this year's Bolton School Sports Festival. In order to accommodate all the schools, the event, now in its fifth year, ran over two days.
Pupils took part in a wide range of sporting challenges, including a rugby slalom, foam-javelin throwing and penalty shoot-outs as well as having their golf, hockey, tennis, athletics, cricket and hurdling skills tested. Schools picked up points in each event they took part in. The overall winner, over both days, was Ladybridge and second place went to Horwich Parish CoE School. The prize for best sportsmanship was awarded to Lostock CPS.
Mr Lovgreen, Sports Teacher at Bolton School, organised the event and was helped by pupils from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. "For me, this is one of the most enjoyable days in the school calendar," said Mr Lovgreen, "the Sports Festival gives us a chance to share our resources and skills with the local community. Teams have to show ingenuity and guile as well as being physically fit. The day is about building team working skills but also about having fun - and I know both pupils and parents love this event."
