A group of Sixth Form boys beat off over 100 other bands to win their way through to Xfm Manchester's Rock School final.
Rob Jones, Chris Wyatt and "Dubs” are all Sixth-Formers at the School and Michael Kenny, the drummer, is ex-Bolton School (now at Winstanley College). They entered their band, Radio Edit, with a cover of Bob Dylan's All Along The Watchtower.
The final took place in Manchester’s Life Café and was judged by Manchester City footballer Joey Barton, Channel M’s Dan Parrott, Clint Boon of Inspiral Carpets fame and Tamsin Currie of the Metro newspaper. Five groups took part in the final and all bands performed admirably. Clint Boon said of Radio Edit’s efforts “it’s a big thumbs up from me”; other comments included “the spirit of Jimmy Hendrix is still alive”, “the front man had great presence” and “they looked very natural and like they’ve been doing this sort of thing for ages.”
In a close call, the winner was a group called Billion Babies who performed AC/DC’s Back in Black.
