A team from Bolton School's Boys' Division has gained second place in the final of the CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) Management Competition 2006. The team comprises three Year 12 students - Antony Kirby, Anthony Jones and Sakib Isa, all aged 17. They took on the role of consultants for a fictional company and had to offer their recommendations through a formal business report. Their findings were presented to a judging panel of senior finance and business professionals at the Heritage Motor Centre in Warwickshire. In the final the Bolton trio came up against nine other schools from across the country.
Mrs Christine Edge, Head of Business Studies at Bolton School said: "This competition has provided a brilliant opportunity for the students to put what they have learnt, whilst studying for their A/S level Business Studies, into practice. The competition has provided the department with an opportunity to provide differentiation and an enhanced experience for our very able students.
I am extremely proud of Antony, Anthony and Sakib. They were shortlisted from 300 teams from 91 schools and, having reached the final, they performed admirably on the day. It is an achievement which is testament to their hard work.”
The awards were presented by Mike Gibbons, Lead Director of the Innovation Unit at the Department for Education and Skills. The Bolton School team received a cheque for £500, an iPod each and a Tiffany trophy.
