Cutting edge Technology at bolton school

Boys at Bolton School are enjoying the very latest in cutting edge technology thanks to the generosity of the Boys' Division Parents' Association.

The Technology Department at the School has just had installed a Rapid Prototyping 3-D Printer.  This means that boys can now create actual three dimensional models of things that they have drawn on the computer.  Once something has been drawn on screen - it could be literally anything from a referee’s whistle to a model car to a key – the 3-D printer then creates a three dimensional representation of the drawing.  The only limitation is the size of the actual object that the machine creates.  Once "sent to print”, the students can watch their object being created as if out of fresh air.  The more complex the structure of the object, the longer it takes to be formed.

Mr Chris Walker, Head of Technology at Bolton School Boys’ Division, commented: “this is a real “wow” piece of cutting edge technology, a real investment and is very rare in schools.  We are now using the machine at all levels of the curriculum and the boys love it!”
