Journalists at Bolton School Boys' Division's newspaper, the Bolton School Paper, were celebrating after being awarded a "distinction” from the judges of the Times Educational Supplement (TES) Newsday 2007 competition. Alex Fisher of Year 11 and Editor-in-Chief commented: "We are delighted. This is the highest possible commendation. Almost 1,000 schools from across the country take part in this competition and only a handful receive the distinction award - we have even improved on last year when we received the highly commended award.”
TES Newsday is an annual competition and students have one day to work on producing a school newspaper, which must reflect the day's news. Twenty journalists from Year 7 to Year 12 pulled together to produce a 36 page newspaper in two sections.
The Bolton School Paper has existed for 5 years and is produced every 3 months. Over 1,000 copies go to pupils, parents and staff.
A delegation of pupils will travel to the Houses of Parliament at the end of June to pick up their award.
