Four high achievers in the Greek and Latin Reading Competition

school hosts greek and latin reading competition

This year Bolton School Boys' and Girls' Divisions jointly hosted the annual Classical Association’s Latin and Greek Reading Competition for schools from across the North-West.

Besides hosting the event, the School also recorded some great results in the competition.  Alex Fisher of Year 11 was first in the GCSE Greek Reading Category and his classmate, Andrew Robertson came in third in the same category.  From the Girls’ Division, Juliet Haley and Jessica Galloway, both from Year 8 and working as a duet, reached the final of the Beginners’ Latin Competition.

The competition took place on Wednesday 7 March and there were several sections, including Beginners’ Latin for pupils in their first year of study, GCSE Latin, GCSE Greek, A level Latin and A level Greek.  The Classical Association awarded book token prizes to individuals and beginners also received certificates.  The judging was by University teachers and ex-teachers of Classics.
