This year's Science Festival was even bigger and better! Twenty local primary schools sent 4 pupils each to Bolton School for our annual Science Festival. The event offered an opportunity for young pupils to really absorb themselves in Science for the day.
Pupils undertook a number of stimulating and practical activities as they moved from Chemistry to Biology classrooms throughout the day. There was also a number of quizzes. A cheque for £150 was awarded to the winning school, Markland Hill CPS. St Philip's CEPS picked up the General Knowledge Quiz prize, Horwich CPS won the Forensic Science activity and Lever Edge CPS won the Chemistry activity.
Dr Mullins, Head of Biology at Bolton School and organiser of the event said:
"This is the second time we have held the Science Festival. Our aim is to stimulate an early interest in Science amongst gifted young pupils from various local junior schools. Making use of our great lab facilities, we provide a variety of inspiring practical activities which challenge and stretch these young pupils: the emphasis on fun further enhances their learning. For me personally, this is one of the highlights of the year.”
The day was summed up by Daniel Kay, a pupil from Mytham Primary School when he said:
“This is the best schoolday I’ve ever had.”
The aim for next year is to involve 40 primary schools from all over the North-West. If your primary school would like to take part next year, please contact Dr Mullins by clicking here.
