A month long employment scheme with the RBS provided an insight into the world of banking for four Sixth Form students

sixth formers' insight into the world of banking

Four Sixth Form students - two boys and two girls – have received an insight into the world of banking and finance after completing a month-long employment scheme with The Royal Bank of Scotland.

Andrew Freer, Alastair Livesey, Alicia Higson and Jessica Seddon worked alongside RBS staff at the bank's Valley HQ and were given a detailed insight into the day-to-day workings of a commercial banking centre.

The four worked with the relationship teams and undertook a wide range of tasks including desk research, completing reports and visiting customers with RBS relationship managers.  As part of the scheme they also visited the bank's Corporate Service Centre in Bolton, which looks at each customer’s requirements and the credit department in Manchester, where they were provided with the background to how the bank makes a decision on whether to lend against propositions.

The scheme was designed to recreate the entire employment process, ranging from their initial application process, to panel interview, ending with a paid position in the bank.

Ian Settle, Relationship Manager at RBS in Bolton, said: "During their time with RBS they have provided assistance to our teams in a professional and mature manner.  Hopefully they enjoyed the scheme enough to pursue banking careers in the future.”
