Sports Festival 2006

This extravaganza of sport involved over 200 pupils from 29 local primary schools.  The event is now in its third year and it has grown in popularity each year.  Schools from across the region have been eager to get involved and, consequently, this year the event ran over two days.

Pupils took part in a wide range of sporting challenges, including a rugby slalom, foam-javelin throwing and penalty shoot-outs as well as having their golf, hockey, cricket and hurdling skills tested.  Schools picked up points in each event they took part in.  The overall winner on the first day was Brandwood Primary and on day two it was St Marks Worsley.  Other prizes were awarded for sportsmanship, outstanding individual effort and outstanding team effort.  The prizes were handed out by Sean O'Loughlin, Wigan and Great Britain rugby league player and Peter Anglesey, Sale and England rugby player.

Mr Lovgreen, PE teacher at Bolton School, organised the event and was assisted by Bolton School pupils.  He commented: "This is one of the most enjoyable days of the year - for me, the pupils and for the many parents who came along to cheer on their child's primary school.  The Festival is part of Bolton School’s work with the local community and a chance to share the resources we have."
