Bolton School's swimming talent is being nurtured for the London Olympics

swimming talent nurtured for 2012 olympics

Bolton School harbours some serious hopes for the 2012 Olympics when it comes to swimming.

Daniel Sliwinski, who is currently in Year 13, recently smashed the 100 metres senior boys' breaststroke record in the English Schools' Division 7 (North-West region) competition at Manchester.  Besides captaining the Division 7 Team, he is in the British Elite Swimming Team and, as part of that team, is shortly going out to Australia for 5 weeks' intensive training.  He is part of the young talent that is being nurtured for the 2012 Olympic Games.  Earlier in the year, he also broke the Great Britain Junior U17 50 metres breaststroke record in a time of 29.06 seconds, which moved him to the top of the UK's junior rankings.

Emma Saunders, Year 9, is Captain of the Junior Girls section of the Division 7 Team and recently won the 100 metres freestyle in under a minute (59.15 seconds).  She too has been identified as a potential athlete for the London 2012 Olympics.  Emma's brother, Alex Saunders, an Old Boy of Bolton School, is a member of the Great British water polo team.

Helen Scott from Year 11 came 4th in the 100 metres breaststroke and 3rd in the Medley Relay.  Helen has been selected for next year's English Talent Programme.

All three pupils swim for Division 7 in the national swimming league and belong to the most improved swimming team in the country.
