The U16 Rugby team has continued the School's success in recent rugby cup and sevens competitions with a very hard fought win over Stonyhurst College.  Playing against the elements at a windswept Rochdale RUFC, superb defence by the whole team kept Stonyhurst to two penalties just before half time.  Mr Fernside and the nervous large band of supporters would have been happy to accept the narrow deficit in such difficult circumstances.  However things got much better when after some good driving play by the forwards, Alex Davidson barged his way over under the posts to score.  Stand in Captain Alex Reilly kicked the extras, for Bolton to take a fortunate but well earned half time lead.

With the wind behind them, Bolton constantly pinned Stonyhurst back and kept their exciting back line away from the danger areas.  From a good penalty kick, Bolton called a short line out and a well rehearsed move saw Davidson go over for his second try of the game.  Once again Reilly kicked the points, this time with an excellent kick from the touchline.

Bolton now had the comfort of an eight point lead but the game was far from over.  Ill discipline cost the side on several occasions, as they were rightly punished for their faults by the referee.  Further problems came when Bolton's hooker Josh Hughes was sin binned for not allowing the penalty kick to be taken.  Stonyhurst scored in the corner to give a tight finish, but with the clock ticking a final kick to touch saw the final whistle and the celebrations began.

Captain for the day Alex Reilly escorted the injured Richard Newman up to the podium and the team collected the School's second piece of Lancashire silverware.
