The Girls’ Division has an excellent reputation for serving the wider community. Girls gladly give their time to help others and to organise fundraising activities for those less fortunate than themselves.
The variety of activities in which our students take part range from helping in hospices and youth centres, to organising individual, class and whole school fundraising events, often for charities which are of particular interest to them individually.
The school’s chosen ‘link school’ charity is SKCV (Street Kids Community Villages). Based in Vijayawada, India, the charity is run by the brother of one of our Charity Committee members, Mr Matthew Norton. SKCV has become a particular favourite among the girls who are constantly trying to find new and exciting ways to raise funds for the children who have lived on the streets of India. In December 2005, twenty Sixth Form students and four members of staff visited the SKCV village. "The children were so open and giving, despite not having much to call their own, that it was impossible not to adore them," says Sheridan, Year 12. "Saying goodbye to them was one of the hardest things I've ever done."
Having raised approximately £8,900 for charity in the academic year of 2005–2006, we are constantly seeking ways in which to equal or even surpass this impressive total!
This year, 2006-2007, we have focused on local charities. Year 8 have collected stamps for The Bolton Guide Dog Centre, Year 9 took part in a Fun Run in aid of Bully Free Zone and the Middle School Drama Clubs have raised funds for Derian House Children's Hospice.
