girls win 20th annual chemQuiz

Bolton School Girls' Division was this year's winner of the annual ChemQuiz, held at Manchester Metropolitan University.  They ran out winners, just ahead of Bolton School Boys’ Division who came second.

The event attracted a record number of entries, with 148 students from 37 schools working in teams in a laboratory analysing various solutions and competing in a quiz.  The day ended on a lighter note with a chemical sudoku in which the contestants and their teachers took part.

The trophy was presented by Dr Brian Murphy, Head of the University’s Chemistry and Materials Department.  He congratulated the team on their chemistry skills, adding "the competition this year was tough and all the participants deserve to be praised for their enthusiasm and understanding of contemporary chemistry.  It is very heartening to know that there are some talented youngsters coming into our industry.”
