We are delighted to report that our Food Technology Department has won a Good Schools' Guide Award for Advanced Level teaching. These annual awards are based on the performances of pupils in their A Level examinations.
Few schools in the region study Food Technology to A Level but, as Mrs Smalley notes, "this is a very popular subject in the Girls' Division and pupils achieve consistently good results at both GCSE and A level. The award is testament to all the hard work put in by both students and staff: we are delighted with it.” In 2005 all the A Level students gained passes at grades A and B and, at GCSE, one pupil gained one of the top marks in the country
After their A Level course—which is made up of a mixture of exams and coursework which includes a practical element—students can go onto study a number of degree programmes that are linked to the subject such as Food Marketing, Management and Dietetics. This summer, for instance, two girls went to King’s College, London and one to Glasgow to study Dietetics. A number of our students have also gone on to teach the subject.
