The whole of Year 8 went to visit Bolton's Guide Dogs for the Blind Association at Nuffield House - 60 girls in the morning and 60 in the afternoon. They learnt how young puppies are trained up into guide dogs and were given a detailed tour of the centre and a demonstration by the dogs.
The girls have been busy collecting stamps and undertaking a whole range of fundraising efforts, including the recycling of mobile phones and printer cartridges and the collection of old coins. They have so far raised £2,444. On the same day, the whole school was hoping to raise further money through a "Specs for a Day” non-uniform day.
The School is aiming to raise £5,000, which will pay for the sponsorship and training of a puppy for 18 months. The girls will be allowed to choose the breed, sex and name of the puppy and will receive “pup dates” on its progress.
Rod Arthern, Senior District Fundraiser at Bolton’s Guide Dog Centre, commented: “we are delighted that Bolton School Girls’ Division has chosen to support our charity. We receive no monetary support from the government and rely entirely on donations; the girls have raised a large sum of money and this is really appreciated.”
