Georgia Hall, who has just completed her GCSEs at Bolton School Girls' Division, has been awarded an Arkwright Scholarship. Some of the funding goes directly to Georgia and some to the Design and Technology Department in the school where she undertakes her A level studies.
Georgia has been selected after successfully passing the Arkwright Aptitude Paper demonstrating flair and originality in solving Engineering Design problems and presenting GCSE work to a panel of interviewers in April. There were 743 applicants but only 170 scholarships were awarded. In order to qualify for the scholarship she must study Maths at A/S Level and preferably to A2 Level.
The Arkwright Trust was founded in 1990 and supports young people during their A level/Scottish Higher years. Georgia will be able to carry the status of "Arkwright Scholar” into university with her.
Scholarships are sponsored by Industry and Charitable Trusts and will be formally presented at a ceremony hosted by The Institute of Engineering and Technology in London on Friday 26 October 2007. During the day Scholars have an opportunity to meet their sponsors and other Scholars.
