sixth formers impress bank of england economists

A team of Sixth Formers from Bolton School has won a Bank of England/Times Target 2.0 Interest Rate Challenge.  The competition is run by the Bank of England and the Times newspaper each year for A level Economics pupils.

The team of four - Parisa Azimy, Meng Qiong Wei, Felicity Hannon and Abigail Dewhurst - had to prepare a 15 minute presentation explaining whether they agree with the current interest rate or not.  They were judged by three economists from the Bank of England.  After the presentation they were then asked a series of questions by the judges.  The judges said they were very impressed with the girls' confident presentational skills and their answers.

Having won this first round of the Manchester heats, the girls now go through to a regional round in February.  If they can win the next round they will go to London for two days, having a day being shown around the Bank of England and the second day taking part in the final competition.  If they win the final they will meet Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England.
