There are a number of opportunities for parents to become involved in the broader life of the school. These include attending sporting events, drama productions and formal and informal concerts. You can also become more actively involved, for example by acting as hosts to your daughter’s foreign exchange partners, offering placements for work experience and work sampling, joining the Parents’ Choir and, of course, by joining the Parents’ Association.
The Association runs a number of events throughout the year such as a social gathering for new parents held in the Arts Centre in September and workshops relating to a number of Personal and Social Education sessions which your daughter may be involved in during the course of the year. The PA also welcomes offers of help with stewarding for Consultation Evenings, an activity which helps the smooth running of these important occasions.
The Association also awards scholarships to girls in Years 7-11 for individual ventures during the holidays and helps to fund improvements within school such as the upgrading of the ICT suite and the recent replacement of the chairs in the Great Hall. In 2003, the Association also ran a 125th Birthday Competition to promote Art, Music and Creative Writing in the Junior and Senior School.
The Chairman of the Association for 2006-2007 is Beverley Andrew. A member of the Parents’ Association Committee also serves as Parent Governor. The current holder of this post is Laura Henthorn. You can read Laura's views on Bolton School by clicking here.
