Bolton School pupils and staff celebrated as they moved into
their new, state-of-the-art infants' school. Each year group
(Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) processed from their old school,
Beech House, to their new school on Dobson Road, next to the
School's Nursery. Boys and girls carried large blue balloons
and sang songs as they were cheered on by parents, children from
the Nursery and pupils from the Junior Girls' School.
The co-educational infants' school, which has taken just over a
year to build, is part of an £18 million investment in new
buildings and facilities at Bolton School.
Mrs Crawforth, Head of the Infants' School said: "It was
fantastic to see the children entering their new school. It
was somewhat emotional to leave the old Beech House but the
facilities in the new school are outstanding. This represents
a real investment in the future of young people in the
region. We believe we now offer the best of both worlds -
whilst maintaining our best traditions and high standards of care
and achievement, pupils will benefit from much larger classrooms
and will be able to utilise the very latest in technology."

After consultation with parents and pupils, it was decided that
the school will retain its name of Beech House. In December
2008, Sir Alan Cockshaw, a world-renowned civil engineer and
recently retired Chairman of Governors at the School,
laid the foundation stone. The official opening will take
place in the Autumn Term.
Mrs Richards, Head of the Girls' Division at Bolton School, to
which the Infant School belongs, said: I am delighted, the finished
school exceeds all expectations; it is spacious and much more
suitable for the modern infant curriculum."
Extensive work on Bolton School Junior Boys has also recently
been completed, including internal alterations and a new
extension. The governors of the School will meet shortly to
discuss the building of a new Junior Girls' school on the site of
the old Beech House.
