There are several ways you can donate to the School.
- You can make a single gift payment or set up a standing order
using the downloadable gift form - simply complete and
return to the Development Office, Bolton School, Chorley New Road,
Bolton, BL1 4PA.
- You can set up regular direct debit payments or make a single
donation through our secure online giving
facility. This external facility is controlled and managed
by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) on our behalf, you can set up
a regular direct debit donation or make a one-off donation using a
debit or credit card via the CAF secure server.
- You can also donate by sending a cheque to the
Development Office, Bolton School, Chorley New Road, Bolton, BL1
4PA. If you would like to donate this way, it would be really
helpful if you could please download and return a completed gift form with your cheque,
so we know how you want your gift to be allocated.
If you would like to discuss other ways of donating, for
example, creating a named bursary in the memory of a family member
or friend, please contact Julia Bates who will be happy to
discuss all the options that are open to you.
If you are an overseas resident you can donate by cheque, bank
transfer or credit card. If you are US resident, your gift to
Bolton School can be tax deductible if made to the British Schools and Universities
Foundation. If you would like to make a donation by
cheque, please download a Donor Transmittal Form
and send with your cheque to BSUF, expressing a preference for
Bolton School. To note, these links will take you to the
BSUF external site, not controlled by Bolton School.
Gift Aid your donation and increase its
value
If you are a UK taxpayer, completing the Gift Aid declaration on
the downloadable gift form enables the School to increase the value
of your gift by at least 28%. If you are a higher rate tax payer,
you will also be able to claim a further 20% tax relief on the
gross value of your gift. Alternatively, you could donate this
reclaimed tax to the School by providing HMRC with our School code
RAG48VG when you complete your Self Assessment
form.
Stocks and Shares
Gifts of shares or property is a very tax effective way of
benefiting Bolton School. Since the reforms to charitable giving
regulations in April 2000, the tax advantages of giving stocks or
shares have increased significantly:
· Capital Gains Tax does not apply to donations of shares
and are eligible for income tax relief, for example
· A gift of shares worth £10,000 could cost basic rate
taxpayers just £8000 as 20% of the value can be offset against
their income tax bill. This could cost as little as £6000 for
higher rate taxpayers.
Corporate Giving
Donations made through your company will receive relief in the
accounting period in which the payment is made, as a charge against
total profits assessable to corporation tax and is regarded as a
"non-trade charge".
