The 2008 Old Boltonians' Bursary Golf Day has raised in the
region of £4,000. When this is added to other contributions
from the Old Boys of Bolton School, which have been collected over
the past three years, it means £200,000 has been raised for the
School's bursary fund.
Despite one or two sharp showers, the day was a great
success. Eighteen teams entered the event at Bolton Golf
Club, which was followed by a dinner and further fundraising
events.
Roger Gould, President of the Old Boltonians' Association, said:
"We've had a wonderful day whilst raising money for a good
cause. I reflect on my days at Bolton School and realise how
they helped set me up for life. Bursaries can help make a
genuine difference to a young person's future. Money raised
over the last few years has provided Sixth Form bursaries, which
have allowed students to join Bolton School for their A levels,
who, otherwise, would not have been able to afford the fees.
One such student graduated this summer with 4 As and has just gone
to Oxford University."
The School has always prided itself on offering an education for
all talented local youngsters, irrespective of their financial
means. This ethos was set in place in 1913 by Lord Leverhulme
when he re-endowed the Bolton School Foundation. Last year
286 pupils received bursary assistance to help them pay their
fees.
