We need your support for two reasons:
- To maintain the traditional social diversity among our
pupils by increasing the number of bursaries we
offer
Bursaries are a vital part of Bolton School. When Lord Leverhulme
re-endowed the School in 1915, his vision was to provide an
excellent education for a diverse range of talented young people.
As he saw it, the opportunity to enjoy such an education should not
be restricted by pupils' financial circumstances - those from less
affluent backgrounds should be able to benefit from what the School
has to offer.
This remains at the heart of our ethos today - the diversity our
bursary scheme provides is extremely beneficial for all our pupils
and for the School as a whole. With the abolition of the
Government's Assisted Places Scheme, additional funds are needed
every year to provide these crucial bursary places. In the current
global economic climate, it has never been more pressing to keep
funding these bursary places so we can continue to attract talented
young people from a variety of backgrounds.
Last academic year, we offered bursary assistance to 1 in
every 6 if our senior school pupils which amounted to a total of
£1.5 million of funding. We aim to increase this
significantly.
- To maintain and improve our facilities and equipment on
offer to the pupils
Fees are devoted to meeting the core operational needs of the
School. Unfortunately they do not cover the full cost of purchasing
all the necessary cutting-edge equipment for the pupils or
refurbishing and building the facilities that keep us at the
forefront of independent education.
We rely on the generosity of the School"s community to fund these
capital projects that cannot be afforded through the our main
budget.
This year, we want to increase support for bursaries and for our
facilities and equipment through the Annual
Fund 2008-09.
