Growing our bursary fund
The School is striving to ensure that an education here is
available to any bright boy or girl who would benefit from it,
regardless of their parents ability to afford tuition fees.
A bursary place at Bolton School can be life-changing and
provides the opportunity and encouragement to realise full
potential in later life. Many former Bolton School students, now
leaders in their chosen profession, owe the basis of their
achievements to past, generous benefactors. Without this support,
an education at Bolton would never have been a possibility for
them.
Who benefits from our bursaries?
- Our bursaries are all means-tested and are available for bright
Senior School pupils who would benefit from an education here but
who face financial constraints.
- School takes great care to ensure that this funding goes to
those pupils who genuinely need it. Our Clerk and Treasurer
assesses all applications through interviews, reviewing documentary
evidence and also through conducting home visits.
We offer fee assistance to over 300 pupils currently and spent
over £2 million on bursary support last year. We are only
able to offer this help through the generosity of our many
supporters. Thank you so much to all those who have supported
our bursaries and helped to make this possible.
Growing this support
Although we are proud to support over 300 pupils, this last
year, we still had to turn away over 50 pupils at year 7 who were
of high ability, simply because we do not have sufficient bursary
funds to support them. We are therefore continuing to appeal to our
Old Boys and Old Girls, parents and friends to help us increase the
amount of bursary assistance we can provide to meet this
shortfall.
We have raised over £1.2 million over the last two academic
years for our bursaries and are looking to raise a further £3
million by 2015, as part of the School's 500 year anniversary
celebrations.
You can support this ambition by:
- deciding to sponsor or part-sponsor a named bursary
place, allocated to a specific pupil. You can also choose
to receive regular updates about the pupil's progress to see just
how much of an impact your support is having. We are grateful
for the named bursary support we receive currently, from a variety
of sources including individuals, corporate donors and charitable
trusts. Please contact Julia Bates if you would like to
discuss this in more detail.
- deciding to make a monthly contribution for example, £10 or
£20 per month or a one-off donation to the bursary fund. All
donations, no matter the size, make a huge difference to our
pupils.
Any contribution you can make could have a
life-changing impact on a pupil's life, providing them with a
priceless gift of an excellent education. Please consider
supporting this crucial cause - click here for details on how you can
