Tradition of Philanthropy at Bolton School

Giving Report - a look back at fundraising successes

The Bolton School Foundation has a long history of fundraising and was created through an act of generosity by Lord Leverhulme in 1915. Since then, philanthropy has played a huge part in the life of the School.

Our Giving Report 2000 - 2008 looks back at donations over the last eight years and shows all the strong support we have received from our Old Boys, Old Girls, parents, businesses, charitable trusts and other friends - it has helped the School develop into the celebrated establishment it is today. The report is available to read as a download at the bottom of this page, but the main headline figures are that since 2000:

  • including all donations, promised gifts and legacies, we have raised over £6 million
  • over £5.2 million has been donated to our Bursary Fund which has meant that last year, 1 in 6 of our senior school pupils received some sort of assistance
  • £850,000 has been given to various capital projects over the years, including IT equipment and Science laboratory refurbishments
  • 30% of donations over the last three years have come from Old Boys and Old Girls
  • 30% of donations over the last three years have come through legacies.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated over the years - £6 million since 2000 is a fantastic achievement.
