Spanish Day

28th February 2011

Feel Good Friday was taken a step further when the Girls' Division catering put on a Spanish event. Hesketh and Beech House were not forgotten as Empanada de Pollo and Tortilla Española were served to some 1300 pupils and staff.

Catering staff in the senior girls wore Matador hats and even the catering coordinator dressed for the occasion creating quite a stir (even though some thought he was a pirate!)

The build-up to the event started early in the week where a Spanish quiz was distributed among the pupils in the senior and junior departments with questions such as 'Do you know who Charles V spoke Spanish to?' or 'Who translated the most popular Spanish Bible?'. The response was enthusiastic when they had the opportunity to win a prize. 51 junior girls got all the questions correct with only 1 from the seniors answering all the questions correctly, needless to say that the quiz was a little harder for the senior girls.

The meal was finished off with a delicious "Arroz Con Leche" a Rice pudding with a hint of Lemon and Cinnamon and "Besitos de Coco" more commonly known as Coconut kisses.

The occasion was a great success and the catering team look forward to Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day.
