War Memorials Officially Captured

Bolton School's War Memorial boards have been officially documented by the UK National Inventory of War Memorials (UK NIWM), which is part of the Imperial War Museum.

Alistair Wallace, a representative from UK NIWM, came along to the school to photograph the boards for their on-line database, which documents the location, type, inscription and historical details of memorials around the country.

The UK National Inventory of War Memorials is a registered charity set up in 1989 in response to concern over the condition of some memorials and the fear that they would be lost forever. So far they have recorded 60, 000 war memorials commemorating all conflicts, and providing an insight into not only the changing face of commemoration but also military history, social history and art history.
