At a time when many schools are seeing reduced applications due
to the demographic downturn, Bolton School has bucked the trend.
The number of boys registering for the Entrance Exam at age 11 was
the highest it has been in over 10 years.
Boys' Division Headmaster, Mr Mervyn Brooker, commented:
I was delighted to see an increase of 13% in terms of boys
sitting the entrance exam this year. We continue to offer an
exceptional educational experience for pupils and this has been
borne out by these record numbers and by the recent inspection
which found us to be "a remarkable school."
Mrs Gill Richards, Headmistress, was equally pleased with
numbers applying for the Girls' Division Entrance Exam and
said:
Application numbers were the highest they have been for five
years. I think parents are attracted by excellent exam results and
our commitment to realising the potential of every pupil.
The early signs were that the quality of entrants was also
extremely high, meaning many pupils will be called for interview
and references sought. Ultimately, the Girls' Division and the
Boys' Division will each register somewhere in the region of
120-140 Year 7 pupils in September 2008.
