Bolton School is once again celebrating outstanding A Level
results.
Boys' Division: 100% Pass Rate
The Boys' Division achieved a fantastic 100% pass rate, with
95.6% of entries graded A*- C, compared with 87.8% last year.
Almost a quarter of entries (24.4 %) were graded A*, 63% were
graded A* or A, and 83.8% were graded A*, A or B.
Ten boys got 4 or more A* or A grades and one student, Toryn
Dalton, got 5 A* grades - he will go on to study Natural Sciences
at Cambridge. Thirty five boys gained three A* or As compared with
27 last year and 80% gained at least one A compared with 64% last
year.
These are a marvellous set of results and I am delighted for all
the boys and their teachers to have their hard work rewarded by
these excellent grades. The results show what Bolton School is all
about, with 95% of the grades at C or above we have real
application and determination from all the boys to fulfil their
potential and really establish themselves for entry to Higher
Education.
With nearly 2 out of every 3 of the grades at A* or A we have
academic excellence in abundance and as well as that the new A* has
allowed the talents of some of our boys to be fully recognised with
24% of the grades awarded being at A*. Grades do not tell the whole
story about the many things the boys achieve in so many ways, but
it is good to have the possibility to excel. In a tight year for HE
entry we are delighted that the vast majority of boys have been
able to go straight ahead to the University of their choice. Some
have done even better than expected and will apply again and only a
handful have been looking at places in clearing, where some have
been available for those with good grades.

Girls' Division: 59% of entries were graded A* or
A.
The Girls' Division also recorded excellent results with 93% of
entries graded A*-C. 19% of entries were graded A* and more than
half of entries (59%) were graded A* or A. 81% were graded A*, A or
B and the overall pass rate was 99.7%.
7 girls gained all A*s, with the Head girl team setting the
standard with 9 A*s and an A between them! One girl Jessica
Lightfoot received 5 A* grades - she will read Classics at
Cambridge. Eight other girls will go to Oxford or Cambridge
universities.
I am delighted for the girls and staff who have worked so hard,
and pleased that the majority of girls have gained the places at
the Universities of their choice. This is particularly pleasing in
a year when it has been very competitive to gain entry to
University and it was also the first cohort to take the new A2
papers which included 'stretch and challenge' questions.
