Bolton School International Rugby Guard of Honour

Tuesday, 24 November 2009

Four Year 10 pupils from Bolton School formed part of the Guard of Honour before the England v New Zealand International Rugby Test Match at Twickenham.

Two boys, Will Doyle and Andrew Hughes, and two girls, Natasha Williams and Ruth Brown, were given the honour thanks to Bolton School's outstanding charity efforts for the SOS Kit Aid programme, a charity which collects sports kit and redistributes it to underprivileged children in South Africa. The four were chosen to represent Bolton School at the match where they got to meet Mr Ed Balls, the Secretary for Schools. They then formed the Guard of Honour alongside Mr Paul Fernside, Head of Rugby at Bolton School, and 12 other youngsters and their teachers from schools across the country who contributed most significantly to the Kid Aid appeal.

Forming part of the Guard of Honour was only part of the reward for the pupils, as back in the Summer Term they flew out to South Africa for the trip of a lifetime, to coach in townships and watch the Second Test Match between The British and Irish Lions and South Africa, the World Champions, in Pretoria.
