Pupils and teachers at Bolton School have been officially
welcomed in to London 2012's Get Set network, in recognition of
their commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic
Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) awarded Bolton School a plaque
and certificate to acknowledge their involvement in the London 2012
education programme, through the emphasis on sport within the
school and the work the school does to encourage sport in the local
community. They now join schools and colleges across the UK as
members of the special London 2012 community and will receive
access to exclusive competitions and 2012 Games related
opportunities over the coming years, including the chance of
winning visits from athletes and the London 2012 mascots.
Chairman of LOCOG, Lord Sebastian Coe, presented
the plaque and certificate to the School at the annual Tillotson
Lecture, where himself and President of the International
Paralympic Committee, Old Boy Sir Philip Craven, spoke to hundreds
of people from across the region about the 2012 Olympic Legacy for
the North West. Lord Coe said:"With many involvement
opportunities still open to the region's young people in
particular, it is with great pleasure that I award Bolton School
the Get Set Network plaque for their involvement in the London 2012
Education Programme. When London won the right to host the Olympic
Games and Paralympic Games, we made a clear promise to use the
power of the 2012 Games to inspire young people. I am proud to
welcome Bolton School in to the Get Set network for their exciting
work around the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and
respect and the Paralympic Values of inspiration, courage,
determination and equality."
Over the coming months, Bolton School will be getting ready for
London 2012 by linking more work to the Games and ensuring that
pupils feel that they are a part of this once-in-a-lifetime
event.
