The number of pupils studying at Bolton School is set to
increase whilst class sizes will be reduced. The extensive
building programme that has been taking place over recent months
means that both the Girls' Division and the Boys' Division have
been able to increase the number of forms in each year group,
reducing class sizes and providing an even better educational
opportunity.
The economic recession has shown no sign of denting the number
of pupils applying to sit Bolton
School's entrance examination this year. The Girls'
Division Senior School saw the highest number of applicants in the
past five years as it seeks to enrol 130 pupils into Year 7 this
year, ten extra places having become available as the Junior Girls
move out of the Senior School building into their newly built
state-of-the-art school in the Autumn Term. The Boys'
Division Senior School will, once again, enrol 140 pupils into Year
7 in September. The early indications are that girls and boys
have performed to a very high standard in this year's entrance
exam.
There will be a slight increase in pupil numbers lower down the
School too as a few extra places have been made available in
specific year groups in the co-educational Beech House (Infant
School) and the single-sex Junior Schools, due to the construction
of the new £5m Infant School, the new £5m Junior Girls' School (due
for completion by September 2010) and the extended and refurbished
Junior Boys' School.
As a result of Sixth Form expansion, a handful of places have
also arisen for pupils wishing to enter Year 10 in September - in
both Divisions.
Overall, it is expected that from the Autumn Term over 2,300
pupils will attend Bolton School, making it one of the largest
independent day schools in the country. A further 90 children
are enrolled at the School's day nursery.
Parents that are interested in Bolton School can visit all year
round to get a feel for the place as well as on Open Mornings and
other special events. Anyone wishing to undertake a private
tour should call the School on 01204 840201.
