"Personally I attribute a significant part of my success to my Bolton School education and the superb foundation it provided. It is the reason why I am so keen to come back and work with the School. "

Charities Benefit from Bigger Christmas Fair!

Wednesday, 20 November 2013

This year’s Bolton School Old Girls’ Association Charity Christmas Market was bigger and better than ever. The new Riley Sixth Form Centre offered space for the market to expand into beyond the usual confines of the Arts Centre. The event, aimed at shoppers looking for that extra special gift, included many local traders as well as pupils and parents, who this year were invited to set up stalls to raise money for their own charities and causes.

There was a wonderful atmosphere throughout the busy morning. Mince pies and mulled wine were served as shoppers enjoyed the mix of quirky and unusual stalls selling everything from handbags to jewellery to local food produce, including a butcher selling pork pies. The School’s Jazz Band had their own stall selling jam and preserves as they raised money for their trip to the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

Girls’ Division Sixth form pupil Leda Hadjigeorgiou sold handmade Christmas decorations and wreathes to raise money for a local charity close to her heart. The charity is a volunteer run and donation-dependent Breakfast Club at a local primary school. The Club opens early every morning to ensure that children in a deprived area have a good breakfast.

There was lots of fun to be had in the Riley Sixth Form Centre, including a Bake-off, children’s games, a raffle and tombola as well as a chance to visit Father Christmas himself!

The Old Girls’ chosen charities this year were Children’s Aid Nepal and Kevin Davies’s charity, KiDs of Bolton. The hugely successful event raised over £1100 for the two charities.
