"Personally I attribute a significant part of my success to my Bolton School education and the superb foundation it provided. It is the reason why I am so keen to come back and work with the School. "

Old Boy Plans Organ Recital

Tuesday, 24 February 2015

Old Boy Mark Williams is now Director of Music at Jesus College Cambridge, but is planning to return to Lancashire to give a special Organ Recital at the church where he was once the organist.

Mark will perform at Christ’s Church, Harwood, on the 20th of March 2015 at 7.30pm. Admission is by ticket only, with all proceeds aiding the church; tea, coffee and wine will be available after the concert.

Music has always been an important part of Mark’s life. He attended the Boys’ Division from 1989 to 1996, where he was awarded a music scholarship at the age of ten. When he was fourteen, he realised his dream of playing the church organ at Christ’s Church, Harwood.

After leaving Bolton School, he went on to pursue his passion for church music. He spent a year as Organ Scholar at Truro Cathedral in Cornwall before studying at Trinity College Cambridge, where he also took up an Organ Scholarship. In 2000, at just twenty-one, he became the youngest person to be appointed Assistant Organist at St Paul’s Cathedral in London! He simultaneously accepted the post of Director of Music at St Paul’s Cathedral School.

Mark became the Director of Music at Jesus College Cambridge in 2009. He also holds a Fellowship, and teaches for the College and the Cambridge Music Faculty.

He has performed nationally and internationally with many of the UK’s leading ensembles, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as appearing on a number of film soundtracks. He has written and arranged music for popular classical-crossover groups Blake and All Angels, and acts as Music Consultant for ITV’s crime drama Endeavour. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, and a trustee of a number of charities and trusts working both in the UK and abroad.

If you are interested in purchasing tickets for Mark’s recital, please contact Rod Ashworth (01204 531977). Tickets cost £5.00 per person.
