Old Boys Join Current Pupils for Reunion Cricket Match

Friday, 03 July 2015

A group of Old Boys returned to Bolton School on Friday to commence the Sports Reunion Weekend with a game of cricket. Decisions about the best format for the match were changed daily throughout the week prior to the Old Boys’ return, but ultimately it was resolved that there would be two mixed teams, combining current and past players in each. It was hoped that this would produce more balanced sides rather than polarising the differences in youth and experience, suppleness and degrees of arthritis!

Current School cricket captain Will Davidson and Ben Milnes opened up with a promising 50 partnership before Joe McCann ripped out three wickets, leaving Guy Haynes to rescue the innings with a spirited 46 and post a moderate total of 149 on what was widely regarded as a bowler friendly wicket.

In reply, the Kay brothers – Old Boy Callum and Year 12 student Fraser – started brightly but then both contrived to give catches to the safe hands of Will Davidson. Captain Matt Fray tried to steady his ship but again the spin of Ben Milnes from Year 11 and Old Boy Liam Watkinson proved decisive, bowling their team to a 44 run win.

The real triumph of the day was the camaraderie between the teams and the good humour displayed by all on one of the hottest July days in Bolton!
