Boys and girls are usually admitted to Beech House in the
September following their fourth birthday. We are looking for
bright, enthusiastic children who take a lively interest in the
world around them.
Individual interviews of about half an hour take place during
the Autumn term of the previous year. No formal skills are
required. The children take part in a series of activities which
help us to assess their readiness to listen, to concentrate and to
adapt to school life. They may be asked to use a pencil with some
measure of control, complete jigsaws, talk about their daily
routine or follow instructions carefully. Allowances are made for
age. Any children who are reluctant to cooperate on their first
visit will be given another appointment.
Offers are sent out in December. Unfortunately, the number of
applicants exceeds the number of places available and there are
always some disappointments. The names of children who are not
offered a place initially are placed on a waiting list.
The children selected are invited to join in a series of
activities at Beech House during the summer term as part of our
induction process. They spend some time in class with their teacher
and Nursery Nurse, watch our Sports Day and come to our Summer
Fair.
