All children love school trips and they can be some of the most
memorable moments of childhood. Our Reception children usually walk
to the local supermarket to buy a vegetable for Harvest Soup, to a
garden centre to buy seeds to plant and sometimes to the nearby
temple to find out about the Hindu faith. In the summer, they go
down to the woods bordering our playing fields accompanied by their
teddy bears for a picnic and games.
Year 1 children often visit a farm, learning about the animals
and the care they need. They sometimes walk to a church to see the
building and to hear about christenings or weddings.
Year 2 children don Wellingtons and dip their nets into local
ponds to investigate pond life. There is great excitement when a
stickleback or great diving beetle is caught. A visit to the Jewish
Museum in Manchester provides an insight into the Jewish faith and
a chance to see what life was like for people in the Cheetham Hill
area of Manchester long ago.
Occasionally, we all embark on a whole school trip to a local
theatre to see a play. We all enjoyed 'The Ugly Eagle' at the
Octagon Theatre recently.
All trips are carefully researched and the risks are assessed.
Parent helpers (CRB checked where possible) accompany the children
and staff.
My favourite trip was when we went to the farm. We saw a pig
called Olive. She snorted and we all laughed. We fed some really
cute lambs.
