Design and Technology lessons at Beech House aim to stimulate
children through exploration and experimentation. Our children
investigate how and why things work then use what they have
discovered to create their own designs. They learn the skills
needed to make mechanisms through activities which form part of the
curriculum. Planning and evaluation are an integral part of the
design process.
The children take a great deal of pride in their work, whether
it is an individual or group project. Year 2 make models which
incorporate a winding mechanism - such as a boat with an anchor
which winds up or a clock with a mouse climbing up. The children
show remarkable originality and care in their design and
construction.
Strong links with other areas of the curriculum ensure tasks are
relevant to the children's experiences.
The subject is well resourced and is linked to the National
Curriculum.
In Year 1, it was good because we made puppets and I made a
dragon.
