At Beech House, we want our children to grow up with a love of
books and of reading. We have a wide range of books - stories,
poems, non-fiction and plays and we work hard to enable the
children to become independent, confident readers.
Many opportunities for speaking and listening are provided, as
well as opportunities for paired talking, group and class
discussions. We actively encourage children to speak confidently in
front of an audience and to perform in Harvest or Christmas
celebrations and the Year 2 concert.
We take the best elements of the Literacy Strategy and
incorporate them into our scheme of work, extending the skills of
our children through a variety of additional activities. We aim to
familiarise the children with a range of different writing styles
and the standard of independent writing within the school is
high.
My favourite lesson is reading because there are lots of
adventures in books.
