"I remember my days at school vividly and with great affection. Bolton School has a great tradition in the liberal arts. I've always acted for the love of it and this first love was inspired at Hopefield, the school theatre."

Junior Voices Ring Out in Boys’ Great Hall

Thursday, 12 December 2013

Harmonious singing and strong, clear reflections and readings by Junior Boys at Bolton School brought joy to an audience of parents, governors and friends of the School as they welcomed in the festive season.

The evening opened with a stunning solo performance from Cian Spencer McDermott, who sang the first verse of Once in Royal David’s City; before being joined by the Park Road Upper School Choir, who sang with flawless verve and who was then, in turn, joined by the voices of the large gathering.

Charlie Swan took up the first of the evening’s readings, which came from Luke 1, verses 26-33.  It was then the turn of the Lower School Choir to showcase their strong vocal skills, offering up a melodious interpretation of Infant Holy, Infant Lowly.

The evening, which was held in the Senior School Great Hall in order to accommodate the large audience, then settled into alternate readings and hymns and carols, punctuated by the Recorder Group’s centre stage performance of A Christmas Medley. There were many highlights, George Gallagher’s reading of Mary’s Son and Luca Williams-Denton’s God Bless Your House were impressive as was the wonderful singing of O Little Town of Bethlehem, Silent Night and O Come, All Ye Faithful.

The Service closed with a prayer and benediction read by the Head of Junior Boys’ School, Mr Stephen Whittaker and there was a retiring collection for Park Road’s partner school, Ondukuta Combined School, Namibia.
