Young Golfer Victorious in Knockout Competition

Wednesday, 28 September 2016

Over the summer holidays, Year 6 pupil Toby Yates competed in the Judge Kershaw Junior Knockout Competition at Bolton Golf Club. This Matchplay competition was open to all of the Bolton Golf Club junior section, so although he is only ten years old he faced competition up to the age of eighteen.

Despite many of his opponents being much older than him, Toby did extremely well throughout the summer. He won the quarter final 10&8 and managed to defeat the seventeen-year-old Junior Captain in the semi-final with a score of 2&1!

The final took place on 18 September and he emerged victorious, scoring 5&3 to win the trophy.

In July, Toby came third in the Under 14 Lancashire Junior Championships at Southport Old Links Golf Club. This was a great success, particularly as the course was long and difficult and he was again playing older boys aged thirteen and fourteen. He also recently came third in the Old Links Bolton Junior Open, another competition open to all under 18s.
